How
To Transfer Your Number To VoIP
You can always transfer your number later if you want to
try out VoIP service first.
1.
Determine if current phone number can be transferred by
contacting us at support@simplyvoice.net.
2.
Sign up for VoIP and select a temporary number with
whatever area code and exchange you want.
3.
Download the VoIP Number Portability Authorization Form
by clicking on the icon in the support section our web
site.
4.
We
will need a copy of your most recent local phone bill
that clearly shows name, number and service delivery
address. All of this information is usually on the first
page of the current provider’s bill. Remember, to
transfer a current number, it must be active with the
current provider. Make sure you do not contact the
current provider to disconnect this number or the
current number may be lost completely.
5.
Fill out the Authorization Form, sign it and fax it and
the phone bill to the number listed on the form.
6.
Transferring the number will take between 7 and 30 days
from the date that we receive the completed paperwork.
We will let you know via email when the transfer has
occurred.
7.
Once the existing number has been transferred, then you
have the choice of just using this as your VoIP number,
or keeping both the existing and the new VoIP number for
a small additional monthly charge.
What Problems Can Arise?
1.
DSL
subscribers may have to keep their current phone number
to maintain their high-speed Internet connection. In
this instance, they can either transfer their DSL
service to another phone line with their current
provider, or they can switch to Cable Internet instead
of DSL. VoIP works well either way!
2.
Your local telephone company may be so small that they
are not obligated to allow them to transfer their number
to the telco of their choosing.
3.
You
may have contractual or financial obligations to your
current provider (or mobile phone company).
4.
If
you have features and associated services such as
Transfer Freeze, Distinctive Ring, Ring Master or ISDN-
or CENTREX-related features cannot be transferred.
5.
There may be pending changes associated with the number
being transferred.
6.
Please note that you are responsible for any fees from
your current provider associated with the number
transfer.
What Happens If The Number Cannot Be Transferred?
Occasionally, we do run into phone numbers we simply
cannot transfer. If we cannot transfer a current number,
you may either:
1.
Keep your current phone number with minimal service and
continue to use your new VoIP number for the great
features and savings on outgoing calls.
2.
Discontinue your current phone number and just keep
their new VoIP number to save even more.
3.
Discontinue your VoIP service and go back to paying
their LEC way too much.
NOTE: DO NOT CANCEL YOUR EXISTING SERVICE WHILE WE
TRANSFER THE NUMBER. IF SERVICE IS CANCELLED BEFORE OUR
TRANSFER IS COMPLETE THE NUMBER COULD BE LOST FOREVER!
